This year, I’ve had a lot of experience as a distance learner, and have found things that I like and dislike about it. To begin, I like being able to work from home, and not having to get ready for class. I also really like when my teachers record class, so I can go back and watch if I ever need more clarification. I dislike how lonely distance learning is, especially in college. Furthermore, it's hard to meet people when class is online. It is also harder for me to learn online. Moreover, I can learn way better in a classroom. When I am a teacher, I will make sure to stop many times throughout the class and ask my students if they have any questions. This will help ensure that they are understanding everything they are learning. Open educational resources are learning resources that anyone can access and use in a variety of ways. These resources are typically distributed online. One example of this is Khan Academy. This resource houses a set of online tools that help educate

When creating my website, I learned a lot of new useful skills. To begin, I learned how to navigate the website design service, Weebly. Furthermore, I learned how to create pages, insert hyperlinks, and imbed a calendar. I really liked this assignment because I’ve always wanted to know how to create a website. I’m going to use what I learned from this assignment when I create a webpage for my future students.  http://msjuliealva.weebly.com   Over the past few weeks I’ve learned several new skills on Diigo. Furthermore, I learned how to upload articles to a class, highlight, and take notes on information. In my future classroom, I plan on uploading articles for my students to annotate. This will help me ensure my students are focused on what they are reading. I can use Diigo with team members to share helpful articles and share our thoughts through notes. Individually, I can use Diigo to archive articles that I think could benefit me. As technology advances, teachers have to make

Many schools require teachers to maintain a set of class pages on the school website. These pages house a lot of important information regarding the class. Furthermore, teachers include introductions, contact information, announcements, upcoming assignments, study guides, and additional resources. On the site I chose, the teacher includes a lot of information including her email, recommended school supplies, resources and links for practice tips, and assignment due dates. https://cchs.cornwallschools.com/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=818814&type=u   When I become a teacher I will definitely create a website. I will include all information I feel is important to include. Furthermore, my website will be a place where students can go if they have any questions regarding what they have and will be learning throughout the year. If students or parents have any questions, my email will be linked on the home page. Prior to this class I have never used a wiki platform. For our  last as

This was my first time using Diigo. Navigating the website was a little confusing at first  however after some time playing around with it, it became easier. I like how everything is pretty straightforward. Furthermore, the site is very organized and applications are easy to find. As of now, there's nothing I don't like about the software. So far I love blogging! I’ve always wanted to start a blog so this is an awesome way to get familiar with a blogging website. I like all the prompts we’ve been given and like how we can read other peoples responses. Overall, I think it's a great way to make sure we are understanding the course content. The blogging process has taught me how to post and comment on a blogging website. YouTube is a Web 2.0 tool that I plan on using in my classroom. YouTube is a tool where people can upload and share videos they created. There are many genres of videos on this site but in my classroom I will focus on education related videos. I really li

Prior to this class, I have never used Twitter. Downloading it I didnt know what to expect. As I've used the app I've noticed that it is pretty simplistic and easy to navigate. For a previous portfolio assignment we had to join an education related chat which I've never done before. I thought this was a cool way to talk about relevant educational topics and get other people input and ideas. I will definitely be participating in chats like this when I become a teacher. It's a great way to develop and advance as a teacher. The Digital Divide addresses the divide between people who do and don't have access to technology. The Digital Divide creates a disparity among students. Furthermore, students who have technology access at home are said to be at a greater advantage for educational success than students who do not. As a classroom teacher I will have to understand that not every student will have access to a computer and the internet at home. I will make sure that eve

The purpose of the ELA technology standards is to prepare students for technology use in and out of the classroom. The tools suggested are not required however can be very beneficial to students. I chose the LAFS.6.RI.3.7 standard for grade 6 wh ich integrates information presented in different media or formats as well as in words to ultimately develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue. Students will use tools to create online video/media albums, charts, and timelines. As of now I think I need more practice to feel comfortable implementing this in a classroom. I feel this way because I have a very beginner skill set. The CPALMS Educator Toolkit website has many useful resources and tools for teachers. I chose a resource under the grade 3 mathematics category titled, “Nature Walk: Fractions Less Than 1 on a Number Line”. This is a very captivating and fun resource that I would definitely use in my classroom. This resource provides many audio recordings of a math lesson with

Copyright and fair use have been created so people can't steal other people's work. Furthermore, copyright protects authors from people using their work and claiming it as their own. Fair use allows select copyrighted material to be used in certain situations such as, reporting, teaching, and research without any permission or payment to the creator. As a teacher, I would always make sure the material I use falls under the fair use doctrine and is not being used illegally. I would also make sure my students are following these guidelines and completing their work legally. There are several issues when it comes to implementing technology in the classroom. Teachers must be aware of these issues and know how to deal with them. Some of these issues include, academic dishonesty, cyberbullying, decreased productivity, and student privacy. As a teacher, I would implement rules that forbid academic dishonesty. If I witnessed any student breaking these rules, I would fail them for tha
